Stephanie Zaffos serves as the estate planning expert for Convergent Wealth Advisors. She works directly with the firm’s clients and their attorneys, helping them to understand the available strategies that seek to minimize tax burdens and maximize the transfer of wealth to future generations. Stephanie also serves as a knowledge resource to the firm’s Advisors by keeping them apprised of new developments in estate planning, and she is responsible for providing training and education on tax and estate planning laws and strategies.

Prior to joining Convergent, Stephanie practiced as a tax and estate planning attorney at nationally recognized firms including Venable LLP, Proskauer Rose LLP, and Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP. Similar to her current role at Convergent, in these positions she focused on developing sophisticated estate plans for clients of ultra-high net worth with an emphasis on formulating planning techniques designed to maximize and protect clients’ wealth for subsequent generations. Her work included estate, gift, and generation-skipping tax planning, as well as implementing various other advanced estate planning techniques. Stephanie has handled numerous estate and trust administrations, including the preparation of federal estate tax returns. She has also assisted clients in the preparation of federal gift tax returns and the allocation of the generation-skipping transfer tax exemption with respect to mixed inclusion ratio trusts. Previously, Stephanie was a Senior Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, where she handled an array of tax issues.

Stephanie received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles and earned a Juris Doctor from the UCLA School of Law with a Tax Emphasis in the Business Law Program. She is a member of the California State Bar and was recognized as a Southern California Rising Star, Trust and Estates in 2004-2012 in the Los Angeles Magazine “Super Lawyers” issue.*

Stephanie is a fervent reader enjoying historical fiction and dystopian thrillers. An avid UCLA and professional sports fan, she especially enjoys football, hockey, and gymnastics.

*The Rising Stars survey consists of a survey of lawyers nominating the best attorneys under 40 years of age that they have personally observed in action. A research team also reviews the credentials of candidates and confirms proper licensing. The point totals from the general survey and research process are then added to arrive at a final tally. To ensure a diverse and well-balanced list, the research staff considers such factors as firm size, practice area and geographic location.
